How to come up with concrete ideas for your brand, with actionable steps to follow and 'do it yourself' and create a brand you love!

Branding can be scary.

Like what is a brand anyways? And why do you need one?

Well first off, your brand is what potential clients think of when they see or hear your business name. It’s what they’ve seen or heard about it that really resonates with them. Those feelings can either make or break your business.

And you need one because you want people to recognize your business name as being synonymous with “AWESOME!”

Okay, so now that you know that basics, let’s see if we can pinpoint your brand.

Step 1: WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT’S YOUR STYLE?

What are you passionate about?

How’s your personality like?

What makes your heart sing?

What catches your eye?

You know what might help you figure that out? Pinterest.

Hop on there and go pin-crazy.

When you’ve done that, look at everything you’ve pinned in one place and see if you notice any trends.

Step 2: WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS ABOUT?

Who is your target client? Or better yet, who do you feel will benefit most from what you have to offer?

What do you want your focus to be?

If you could think of three words to describe your business and it’s values, what would they be?

Step 3: TIE IT ALL TOGETHER!

You need to let WHO YOU ARE meet WHO YOU WANT TO WORK WITH.

Also, now would be a good time to figure out your business name if you haven’t yet.

Remember that it’s okay to use personable words on your website and marketing material. Allow your REAL personality to seep into your stuff with your choice of words.

Also remember that your brand is an extension of you and OWN IT!

After you’ve answered all of those questions, you’ll have some substance to your “brand” and you’ll be ready for the look of it!

That’s where I can come in and work my magic.

But, I’m not in everyone’s budget and that’s alright.

For those go you who are DIYers, I’ve got a few tips for you:

  • Less is more

  • Cameras can be cliche unless done strategically

  • Using font combinations such as a script + serif or sans serif font
