Laura Steele Eckert, New Creation Photography
Laura Steele Eckert is a maternity, birth, and newborn photographer from the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Iowa area. She started New Creation Photography in 2003 and was the first photographer in the state to begin photographing births professionally in 2010. Laura is the founding admin of the "Birth Photography" group and community page on Facebook, and was the co-chair of the 2017 Elevate Birth Photography Image Competition. She is dedicated to strengthening the professional birth photography industry through the mentoring of newer photographers and promoting outstanding birth photography to the public.
Shafia M. Monroe
Shafia is a renowned midwife, doula trainer, a Master of Public Health, and a sought-after speaker, recently keynoting "Regulating Birth in Oregon" at the Oregon Historical Society. In 1991, she founded the International Center for Traditional Childbearing (ICTC), an infant and maternal mortality prevention, breastfeeding promotion, and midwives and doula training of color non-profit organization. In 2002, she created the ICTC Full Circle Doula Training Program - training over 2000 doulas - and her training program continues to serve as the national model for reducing infant mortality and increases the number of midwives and doulas of color. In 2014, she formed Shafia Monroe Consulting (SMC) helping health care professionals achieve cultural competenacy, increase clients, and improve birth outcomes. She is the owner of Doula Ready LLC, focusing on perinatal stress reduction services for professional women.
Her work has earned her many awards.
Shafia is a mother of seven and a grandmother of nine; she enjoys writing, gardening, dancing, and cooking for her friends and family.
Along with the Creator's blessing, Shafia attributes her success in improving perinatal health by incorporating African and Southern outreach and traditional midwifery practices.

I used to make beautiful pictures of people doing happy things, then my son came into my life and my world tipped over. Now I make beautiful portraits of how it feels; the complexity of our love, pain,joy, frustration and consuming connection. I want to share in your life story, I want to help to document this time with you in all its gritty honesty; diapers and tears, giggles and tantrums, longing and patience.
Aubre Tompkins, Mountain Midwifery Center
Aubre Tompkins is a Certified Nurse Midwife and the Clinical Director of Mountain Midwifery Center in Englewood, CO. She is a passionate supporter and defender of Physiologic Birth, ensuring choice for families and providing care to families in all the shapes and sizes that they come. She is also committed to growing the profession of midwifery, through community activism and precepting midwifery students. She also dabbles with writing and hopes to inspire all birthing folks and aspiring midwives with her work. On a personal note, Aubre has afantastic husband and three precocious children that keep her busy at home.

Neely Ker-Fox, Ker-Fox Photography
Neely began her career as a professional photographer in 2009 and shot her first birth in 2011. Not long after she decided to specialize in birth photography and family photojournalism in 2013. Since then she's been blessed to have photographed over 100 births and counting. Through the years she has garnered trusted relationships with countless doctors, midwives, anesthesiologists, nurses, and hospital staff, as well as gained a wealth of knowledge regarding prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. She also brings her own personal experiences through the birth of her own children.
Jen McLellan, Plus Size Birth
Jen McLellan is a published author and certified childbirth educator who advocates for plus size women. She promotes positive information to empower healthy decision making during pregnancy. Within her blog, Plus Mommy, she helps women navigate the world of plus size pregnancy, shares tips for embracing your body, and laughs along with the adventures of motherhood. Her work has been featured in major publications such as Yahoo Shine, Huffington Post, Everyday Feminism, and International Doula. She co-authored the Amazon bestseller, The Peachie Moms Guide to Body Love for Moms and authored My Plus Size Pregnancy Guide. Jen is also a skilled patient advocate, professional speaker, wife, and mother to a charismatic 6 year old.
Elliana Gilbert, Elliana Gilbert Photography
Elliana Gilbert is an award-winning, internationally recognized birth photographer. A member of the International Association of Professional Birth Photographers, Canadian Birth Photographers as well as the community of Birth Becomes Her, Elliana's work is featured regularly on blogs and in popular parenting media platforms. Elliana works closely with and has been published by the Canadian Association of Midwives as well as by Elsevier in the 2017 Maternal Child textbook for nursing students in Canada. Hailing from a professional nursing career specializing in labour and delivery, Elliana is also trained and works as a Birth Doula, and offers mentoring to other aspiring birth photographers. Elliana is passionate about the power of art and storytelling as it relates to birth and is always keen to dip her hands in a variety of different mediums to further express her passion.
Emily Mitchell, Everyday Films
Emily Mitchell started Everyday Films in 2013, inventing a new niche in the family photography market: professional family videography. She is the spearhead of the video movement in the family lifestyle photography world, having personally taught nearly 600 students from 19 countries in her online workshop. The Film Workshop is the original introductory video workshop for photographers and is hosted through Everyday Film School, alongside The Birth Film Workshop, taught by Monet Nicole Moutrie. Emily also serves as a contributor for Offset and lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina with her husband, Geoff, and their three children.
Bryn Huntpalmer, The Birth Hour
Bryn Huntpalmer is an Austin-based podcaster and mother of two young kids. She’s the founder of The Birth Hour podcast which has been featured as 'New & Noteworthy' on the front page of iTunes and has over two million downloads. Jennifer and Monet
Jenn and Monet bonded over their love of birth photography and helping new birth photographers get the tools and skills they need. They both live and work in Colorado, teaching birth photography workshops year round. Together, they worked to create a beautiful space for photographers to showcase their favorite birth images. They foster the Birth Becomes Her Community and facebook group, as well as growing the love of birth photography worldwide.
